A
Aback: If you are taken aback by something, you are surprised or shocked by it you can not respond at once.
Abate: If something abate, it becomes much less strong or widespread.
Absolve(absoudre): IF a report or investigation absolves someone from blame or responsibility, it formally stades that he or she not guilty.
Accurate: Information, measurements, and statistics are correct to a very detailed level.
Affordable(abordable): If something affordable, people have enough money to buy it.
Aft : If you go aft in a boat or plane, you go to the back of it. If you are aft, you are in the back.
Ahead: Something that is ahead is in front of you.
Allowance: Is money that is given to someone, usually on a regular basis.
Aloud: When you say something read or laugh a loud people can hear you.
Although: To introduce a subordinate clause which contains a statement.
Amazonian(Amazonien): Woman or thing belongs to or is connected with a tribe of women warriors in Greek mythology.
Amenity : Amenities are things such as shopping centres or sports facilities that are provided for people comfort.
Among: Someone that is situated or moving among a group of things is surrounded by them.
Anthrax(Bactérie) : Is a disease of cattle and sheep, in which they get painful sores and fever.
Applied: If you applies for something such as a job or membership of an organization.
Armageddon : When people refer to armageddon they are referring to a terrible battle or war that lead to the total destruction of the world or the human race.
Asylum : An asylum is a mental hospital. If a governement gives a person from another country asylum, they allow them to stay, usually because they are unable to return home safely for political reason.
Attain: If you attain a particular state or condition, you may reach it as a result of natural development or work to attain this state.

Banking: When an aircraft banks, one of its wings rises higher than the other.
Bed-sitting: You are talking about being near them when they are in bed.
Begged: If you beg someone to do something, you ask them very anxiously or eagerly to do it.
Belief: Belief is a feeling of certainty that something exists, is truth or good.
Belly: The belly of a person is their stomach or abdomen.
Bemuse: If something bemuse you, it puzzle or confuse you.
Bended: If you beg someone for something on bended knee.
Bile: Bile is a liquid produced by your liver which helps you to digest fat.
Biting: Wind or cold is extremely cold.
Bladder: Your bladder is the part of your body where urine is stored until it leaves your body.
Blind : Someone who is blind is unable to see because there eyes are damaged.
Blur: A blur is a shape or area which you can not see clearly because it has no distinct outline or because it is moving very fast.
Bloke: A bloke is a man, used in informal British English.
Boastful: If someone is boastful, they talk too proudly about something that they have done are that they own; used showing disapproval.
Bodge: In British English if you bodge something you make it or mend it in a way that is not as good that it should be.
Bond: Between people is a strong feeling of friendship, love.
Bookish: Spends a lot of time reading serious books.
Borrow: If you borrow something that belongs to someone else, you take it or used it for a period of time.
Bosom: A woman's breasts are sometimes referred to as her bosom.
Brandy: Is a strong alcoholic drink. It is often drunk after a meal.
Breadline : Someone who is on or close to the breadline is very poor indeed.
Brisk: A brisk activity or action is dome and in an energetic way.
Brolly (parapluie): A brolly is the same as an umbrella.
Brought : Is the past tense and past participle of bring.
Bugbear : Something or someone that is your bugbear worries or upsets you.
Bush(arbuste): A large plant which is smaller than a tree and has a lot of branches.
Buxom : If you describe a woman as buxom you mean that she looks healthy and attractive and has a rounded body and big breasts.
Byword : Someone or something that is a byword for a particular quality is well known for having that quality.

Cadge (parasite): If someone cadges food, money, or help from you, they ask you for it and succeed in getting it.
Candour : Candour is the quality of speaking honestly and openly about things.
Cashflow : The cashflow of a firm or business is the mouvement of money into in out of it.
Casual: You pretend to be relaxed and not very concerned about what is happening.
Charm: Is the quality of being pleasant or attractive.
Cheek(les joues): Your cheeks are the sides of your face below your eyes.
Cheerfully: Is happy and joyful and shows this in their behaviour.
Chimney: Is a pipe through which smoke goes up into the air, usually through the roof of a building.
Clerks: Is a person who work in an office, bank.
Clever: Someone who is clever is intelligent and able to understand things easily.
Clutch: If you clutch at something you hold it tightly.
Coarse: Things have a rough texture because they consist of thick strands or large pieces.
Coerce: If you coerce someone into doing something, you make them do it, although they do not want to.
Collar: The collar of a shirt or coat is the part which fits round the neck.
Comfortably: If someone or something comfortably does something they do it easily.
Compelling: Argument or reason is one that convinces you that something is true or that something should be done.
Contend(concurrent): If you have to contend with a problem or difficulty, you have to deal with it or over come it.
Constrict (contracte): If a part of your body is constricted something causes it to become narrower.
Copper : Copper is reddish brown metal that is used to make things such as coins and electrical wires.
Countenance: They do not agree with it and will not allow it to happen.
Courtesy: Courtesy is politeness and respect for others.
Cracked: A lane on it's surface because it is damaged.
Cradle(berceau): It's a baby's bed with high sides.
Craftsman : A craftsman is a man who makes things skilfully with is hands.
Crawling: When you crawl, you move forward on your hands and knees.
Creed: A creed is a set of beliefs, principles, or opinions that strongly influence the way people live or work, a formal use.
Creep : When people or animals creep somewhere, they move quietly and slowly.
Crimson: Something that is crimson is deep red in colour.
Crinkle: If something crinkle it becomes slightly creased or folded.
Crux (crucial): The crux of a problem or argument is the most important or difficult part of it which affects everything else.
Cryptic : A cryptic remark or message contains a hidden meaning or difficult to understand
Cuff (manchettes de chemise): The cuffs of a shirt or dress are the part at the ends of the sleeves which are thicker then the rest of the sleeves.

Daft: A person or their behaviour as daft, you think that they are stupid, impractical.
Damned : Damned is swear word that some people use, especially when they are angry of frustrated, to emphasize what they are saying.
Dandy: A dandy is a man who thinks a great deal about is appearance and always dresses and smart clothes.
Daredevil : Daredevil people enjoy doing physically dangerous things.
Dazzle: If someone or something dazzle you, you are extremely impressed by their kill qualities or beauty.
Defray(défrayer): You defray someone's costs or expenses, you give then money which represents the amount that they have spent.
Denigrate: If you denigrate someone or something, you criticize them unfairly or insult them.
Desperate: You are in such a bad situation that you are willing to try anything to change it.
Dice(dé): A dice is a small cube which has one to six or numbers on its sides, and which is used in games.
Dinky: In informal British English if you describe something as dinky, you mean that you find it attractive because it is quite small and well-designed.
Disable : If an injury or illness disables someone, it affects them so badly that it restricts the way they can live their life.
Disarray : If people or things or disarray, they are disorganized and confused. If things or places are disarray they are in a very untidy state.
Disbelieving: You do not believe that it exists or that it exists or that it work.
Dismiss: If you dismiss something, you decide that is not important enough for you to think about or consider.
Down : Is the time of day when light first appear in the sky, before the sun rises.
Downward: A downward movement or look is directed towards lower place or lower level.
Drab : If you describe something as drab, you think it's dull and boring to look at or experience.
Dray: At dray is a large flat cart with four wheels which is pulled by horses.
Dreadful: If you say that something is dreadful you mean that it is very bad or unpleasant.
Drunk : Someone who is drunk as drunk so much alcohol that they cannot speak clearly or behave sensibly.
Dumb : Someone who is dumb is completely unable to speak. In informal English, if you call a person dumb, you mean that they are stupid or foolish.
Dusk: Is the time just before night when the daylight has almost gone.
Duster(plumeau): Is a cloth which you use for removing dust from furniture ornaments, or other objects.

Eager: If you are eager to do or to have something, you want it very much.
Either: in front of the first of two or more alternatives ,when you are stating the only possibilities or choices that there are.
Endearing: That it causes you to feel very fond of them.
Endow (doter): You say that someone is endowed with a particular desirable ability, characteristic, or possession when they have it by chance or by birth.
Entomb: If something is entombed, it is buried or permanently trapped by something.
Epic: An epic is a long book, poem or movie who last for a long period.
Eroticism(érotisme): Is sexual excitement, or the quality of being able to arouse sexual excitement.
Ethereal: If you describe someone or something as ethereal, you mean that they have a delicate beauty.
Ethic: Ethics are moral beliefs and rules about right and wrong.
Even: An event is something that happens, especially when it is unusual or important.
Exposure: To something dangerous means being in a situation where it might affect you.
Eyesight : If your ability to see.

Fandango: A fandango is a spanish dance in which to people dance very close together.
Farrier: Is a person who fits or horseshoes on to horses.
Fashion(mode): It's the area of activity that involves styles of clothing and appearance.
Fault : If a bad or undesirable situation is your fault, you caused it or are responsible for it.
Feat : If you refer to an action, or the result of an action, as a feat, you admire it because it is an impressive and difficult achievement.
Fierce(agressif): Animal or person is very aggressive or angry.
Frumpy : If you discribe or her clothes as frumpy you mean that her clothes are dull and unfashionable.
Flawless : If you say that something or someone is flawless, you mean that they are extremely good and that there are no faults or problems with them.
Flippant: You are criticizing them because you think they are not talking.
Flooding: An area of land that is usually dry is covered with water after rain.
Footage : Footage of a particular event is a film of it or the part of a film which shows this event.
Footbridge: Is a narrow bridge for people travelling on foot.
Foreign : Something that is foreign comes from a country that is not your own.
Framing: Of a picture or mirror consists of the wood, plastic, or glass part that is fitted around or over it.
Freezer: A freezer is a large container like a fridge in which the temperature is kept below freezing point so that you can store food inside for long periods.
Freight: Freight is the movement of goods by lorries, trains chips or aeroplanes.
Frenzy: Frenzy is great excitement or wild behaviour that often result from losing control of your feelings.
Frivolous: If you describe someone has frivolous, you mean they behave a silly or light hearted way rather than being serious and sensible.
Frowned: Their eyebrows become drawn together, because they are annoyed, worried, because they are concentrating.
Fuchsia(fuchia): A fuchsia is a plant or a small bush which as pink, purple or white part.

Gargle : If you gargle you wash your mouth and throat by filling your mouth with a liquid, making a bubbling noise in your throat, then spitting out the liquid.

Glittering: Light comes from or is reflected off different parts of it every moment.
Glum: Someone who is glum is sad and quiet because they are disappointed or unhappy about something:
Glut: There is so much of it that it cannot all be sold used.
Good-naturedly: Person or animal is naturally friendly and does not get angry easily.
Grace: When you are addressing or referring to a duke, duchess.
Grinding: If you describe a bad situation as grinding, you mean it never get better.
Gritting: Is very small pieces of stone.
Granular: Substances are composed of a lot of granules, or feel or look as if they are composed of a lot granules.
Groovy: If you describe something as groovy, you mean that it is attractive, fashionable, or exciting.
Grumbled : They complain about something in a bad-tempered and discontented way.
Gutters: Is the edge of a road next to the pavement, where rain water collect and flow away.

Hacker: Is someone who uses a computer a lot, especially so much that they have no time to do anything else.
Haphazard : If you describe something as haphazard, you are critical of it because it is not at all organized or is not arranged according to a plan.
Happily: You can add happily to a statement to indicate that you are glad that something happened.
Harmless: Something that is harmless does not have any bad effects, especially on people's health.
Harsh : Climates or conditions or very difficult for people, animal and plants to live in.
Harvest (récolt): The harvest is the gathering of a crop.
Haze: Haze is light mist, caused by particles of water or dust in the air, which prevents you from seeing objects clearly.
Heavy Metal: Is a type of very loud rock music with a fast beat. People who play and listen to heavy metal music usually have long hair wear black leather or denim clothes.
Held : Is the past tense or past participle of hold.
He-man : A he-man is a strong and virile man, especially want who likes to show everyone how strong and virile he is, an informal word.
Hideaway : A hideaway is a place where you go to hide or to get away from other people.
Hiker: A hiker is a person who is going for a long walk in the countryside for pleasure.
Hinge on : Something that hinges on one thing or event depends entirery on it.
Hint (suggestion indirect): A hint is a suggestion about something that is made in an indirect way.
Homeless : Homeless people have no where to live.
Homemaker : A Homemaker is a woman who spends a lot of time looking after her home and family. If you describe a women as a homemaker, you usually mean that she does not have another job.

Illicit : An illicit activity or substance is not allowed by law or the social customs of a country.
Imperialistic : If you describe a country as imperialistic, you disapprove of it because it wants control over other countries.
Imply: If you imply that something is the case, you say something which indicates that it is the case in an indirect way.
Imprint: If something leaves an imprint on a place or on your mind, it has a strong and lasting effect on it.
Inadvertent : An inadvertent action is one that you do without realizing what you are doing.
Inane : If you describe someone's behaviour or actions as inane, you think they are very silly or stupid.
Indeed: To confirm or agree with something that has just been said.
Inexpensive: Something that is inexpensive does not cost very much.
Influenza: Is the same as flu.
Inlaid: An object that is inlaid has a design on it which is made by putting materials such as wood gold, or silver into the surface of object.
Instil: If you instil an idea or feeling into someone you make them think or feel it.
Intent: On doing something you are eager and determined to do it.
Irk: If something irks you, it irritates or annoys you.
Irksome: If something is irksome it irritate you or annoys.
Ironic: When you make an ironic remark, you say something that you do not mean, as a joke.
Irreligious : An irreligious person does not accept the beliefs of any religion or opposes all religions.
Irreparable(irréparable): Damage harm is so bad that it can't not be repaired or put right.
Islamic(Islamique): Means belonging or relating to Islam.

Jackboots: Are heavy boots that come up to the knee, such has the ones worn by some soldiers.
Jaunt: Is a short journey which you go for pleasure or excitement.
Jehovah: Is the name given to god in the old testament.
Jew : A Jew is a person who believes in and practises the religion of Judaism.
Jiggle: If you jiggle something, you move it quickly up and down or from side to side; an informal use.
Jist : The jist of a speech conversation, or piece of writing is its general meaning.
A Jumpsuit: Is a piece of clothing in the form of a top and trousers in one piece.
Jumpy : If you are jumpy you are nervous or worried about something, an informal word.

Laser: Is a narrow beam of concentrated light produced by a special machine. It used for cutting very hard materials, and in many technical fields.
Lavatory: Is the same as a toilet.
Layoff: When they are layoffs in a company, people are made unemployed because there is no more work in the company.
Lechery : Is the behaviour of men who are only interested in women sexually; used showing disapproval.
Ledge(saillie): Is a piece of rock on the side of a cliff or mountain.
Leeway: Leeway is the flexibility that someone has to change their plans.
Levy(taxe): Sum of money that you have to pay, for example as a taxe to the governement.
Lifeboat(bateau de sauvetage): Is a medium-sized boat that is sent out from a port or harbor in order to rescue people who are in danger at see.
Linen: Is a kind of cloth that is made from a plant called flax.
Loan: A loan is a sum of money that you borrow.
Loquacious : If you describe someone as loquacious, you mean that they talk a lot; a formal word.
Lot: A lot of something is a large amount of it.
Lowly: If you describe someone or something as lowly you mean that they are low in rank, status.
Luscious: If you describe a woman or something about her as luscious, you mean that you find them sexually attractive.

Merger: A merger is the joining together of two separate companies so that they become one.
Messianic(divin): Messianic means relating to the believe that a divine being has been born, or will be born, who will change the world.
Might: Is power or strength.
Misery: Is the way of life and unpleasant living conditions of people who are very poor.
Misunderstanding: Do not understand them properly.
Mobster : A mobster is someone who is a member of an organized group of violent criminals.
Monogamous : Someone who is monogamous or who have monogamous relationship as a sexual relationships with only one partner.
Morgue : Is a building or room where dead bodies are kept before being cremated or buried.
Moron : If you refer to someone as a moron, you think that they are very stupid, an offensive word.
Motorcede : Is a line of slowly-moving cars carrying important people, usually as part of a public ceremony.
Mousey: hair is dull light brown colour.
Muck in : They join in with and activity or help other people with a job and do not consider themselves to be too important to do it.
Mudflats: Mudflats are areas of flat empty land at the coast which are covered by the sea only when the tide is in.

Nippy (Température froide): If the weathers is nippy, it is rather cool.
Noonday : Noonday means happening or appearing in the middle part of the day.
Nope: Nope is sometimes used instead of no as a response in informal spoken English.
Norse: Norse mean belonging to medieval Scandinave.
Nosy: If you describe someone has nosy you mean, that they are interested in things that do not concern them.
Novelty : Novelty is the quality of being different, new, and unusual.
Nought: Is the number zero.

Obscenity : Obscenity is behavior that offends people because it relates to sex in an unpleasant or indecent way.
Offbeat: If you describe something or someone as offbeat, you think that they are different from normal.
Offing : If you say that something is in the offing, you mean that it is likely to happen soon.
Omit (oublier): If you omit something, you do not include it in an activity or a piece of work, deliberately.

Orgasm: Is the moment of greatest pleasure and excitement in sexual activity.

Poky: A room or house that is poky is uncomfortably small.
Potted : Meat or fish is cooked meat or fish, usually in the form of a paste.
Pound: Is the unit of money which is used and Britain.
Pow-wow: Is a meetings or conference of native Americans.
Praise : If you praise someone or something, you express approval for there achievements and qualities.
Prickle : It feels as if a lot of small sharp points are being stuck into it.
Protocol(protocole): Is a system of rules about the correct way to act in formal situations.
Protozoan(protozoaire): Are very small life forms which often live inside larger animals.
Protuberant : Protuberant eyes, lips, noses, or teeth stick out more than usual from the face.
Proud : If you feel proud, you feel glad about something good that you possess or have done, or about something that someone close to you possesses or has done.
Provided : If you say that something will happen provided or provided that something else happen, only if the second thing also happens.
Putsch : A putsch is a sudden attempt to get rid of a governement by force.
 
Q
Quaint : Something that is quaint is attractive because it is unusual and rather old-fashioned.
Qualm(scrupule): If you have no qualms about doing something, you are not worried that it maybe wrong in some way.
Quarry: A quarry is an area that is dug out from a peace of land or mountainside in order to extract stone, slate or minerals.

Reckless : If you say that someone is reckless, you mean that they act and a way which show that they do not care about danger or the effect their behaviour will have on other people.
Reek(puer): It's someone or something unpleasant.
Referee : The referee is the official who controls a sports match, a referee is also a reference for example when who are applying for a job.
Remote : Areas or far away from cities and place where most people live.
Restless : If you are restless, you are bored, impatient, or dissatisfied, and you want to do something else.
Retrieved: If you retrieve something, you get it back from the place where you left it.
Reveller(people who have fun): People who are enjoying themselves in a noisy and often drunken way.
Rhapsody : A rhapsody is a piece of music which as an irreguelar forme and is full of feeling.
Rim: The rim of a container such as a cup of glass is the edge that goes all the way round the top.
Riot : When there is a riot, a crowd of people behave violently in a public place, for example they fight, throw stones, or damage buildings and vehicles.
Rooster: Is an adult male chicken.
Root: A plant are the parts of it that grow under the ground.

Sag: When something sags, it hangs down loosely or sinks downwards in the middle.
Saggy : If you describe something as saggy you mean that it has lost its firnness over a periode of time and become unatractive.
Salacious : If you describe something such as a book or joke as salacious you think that it deals with sexual matters in an unnecessarily detailed way.
Salesman: A salesman is a men whose job is to sell things.

Sardonic: If you describe someone has sardonic, you think their behaviour is mocking or scornful, often because they think that they are better than other people.

Serge : Is a type of strong woollen cloth used to make clothes such as skirts.
Settler: Settlers are people who go to live in a new country.
Share: A company's shares are the many equal parts into which it's ownership is divided.
Shatter: If something shatters or if something shatters it, it breaks in to a lot of small places.
Sherry: Is a type of strong wine that is made in south-western spain.
Shortcoming: Are the faults or weaknesses which they have.
Shrugged: You raise your shoulders to show that you are not interested in something.
Silly: If you say that someone or something is silly, you mean that they are foolish childish, are ridiculous.
Sin (péché): Is a type of behavior which is believed to break the laws of god.
Sine qua non : A sine qua non is something that is essential if you want to achieve a particular think; a formal expression.
Signpost: A signpost is a sign by a road junction, telling you which direction to choose.
Skilful : Someone who is skilful at something does it very well.
Sleaze: You use sleaze to describe activities that you consider immoral, especially politics.
Slight: Something that is slight is very small in degrees or quantity.
Slightly: Slightly means to some degree but not to a very large degree.
Slip: If you slip you accidentally slide and lose your balance.
